Description
I remember first coming across photos of the Shallee Mine on the internet over a decade ago. The shapes and forms of the old disused mine near the village of Silvermines in Tipperary, with sunlight entering into the eerie chambers stuck with me for many years. I needed a camera that would do the place justice. I finally photographed the mine in 2018 with my Phase One IQ3100, capturing everything in splendid detail. I spent 2 days creating a collection of unique photos. Sunlight lifted the dark shadows of the spaces revealing it’s hidden beauty. The wonderful rough golden rock was revealed. It was clear to me that it was cut with the blood sweat and tears of the miners. I can only imagine how resilient these miners must have been.
