Coulagh Bay Beara Peninsula

“A Progress, from that world to this.”

– SJ Mannion

A fine art seascape photo of Coulagh Bay on the Beara Peninsula on the south west coast of Ireland in County Cork. The telegraph poles which so often destroy the Irish landscape, actually give depth to the photo and leads your eye over the various forms and soft curves of the scene.

Coronation Plantation County Wicklow

“We mourn the fallen.”

– SJ Mannion

I took this moonlight photo of the Coronation Plantation in the Wicklow mountains in early September. The Coronation Plantation is a lovely location in County Wicklow and it really came alive in the clear moonlight that night. It was beautiful but I was plagued with midges! They were everywhere.. and relentless. It was a real struggle to take the shot to be honest. They were going into my ears, my eyes, my mouth. Everywhere! I lit the trees in the foreground with a large low output LED light and the exposure was about 4 minutes. It was worth the effort though.

Cahercommaun Fort the Burren

“Lavender hues soft as a shawl.”

– SJ Mannion

I took this photo of the cliffs at sunset near Cahercommaun Fort in the Burren, County Clare in the west of Ireland. I was drawn to the type of woodland in and around the cliffs. It is not the typical type of woodland that you see around Ireland. I guess it is due to the barren landscape of the Burren. It somehow reminded me of a trip the south of France I made many years ago.

Cascade Wood County Cork

“Fretwork and filigree: form illuminate.”

– SJ Mannion

I read about Cascade Wood in my very useful forest reference book Stopping by Woods. Cascade wood is a small woodland, which lies in the West Cork Gaeltacht within the village of Ballyvourney, between the towns of Macroom and Killarney, Co. Kerry. Parts of it are quite overgrown and a samba dancer I will never be but it was worth it in the end, I found this lovely location but had to wait a few hours before the light came good. The flowing forms of the tree on the right compliments the large statuesque trees on the left and the starburst luckily appeared in the perfect location.

Caragh Lake Co. Kerry

“The future lies always before us, just, between the trees.”

– SJ Mannion

Caragh Lake at the foot of the mighty Macgillicuddy Reeks on the Iveragh Peninsula, is one of the most beautiful lakes in County Kerry, peaceful and unspoilt, with Mediterranean growth due to the very mild climate all year round.

Irish Landscape photo Connemara Bogwood

“A limb: before stone beyond bone. Ancient. Jarring. Petrified.”

– SJ Mannion

An Irish Landscape photo of old Connemara bogwood. Connemara is a wonderful and sometimes wild part of County Galway in the west of Ireland. Dusk sunlight catches the peaks of the Twelve Pins and Maumturk mountains in the background.

landscape photo Ballintoy arch County Antrim

“Arch of stone. Stronger than itself.”

– SJ Mannion

A sunset landscape photo of the well known Ballintoy arch at Whitepark Bay along the stunningly beautiful County Antrim Coast. The entire area is a treasure trove of wonderful landscape. The arch is a short walk from Ballintoy Harbour. Itself a very pretty place.
