ha’penny bridge dublin fine art photo dublin

“Transient transience transcending.”

– SJ Mannion

A surreal sunset photo of the Hapenny bridge over the river Liffey in Dublin City Centre. The human movements take ghost like forms as they pass each other on the bridge. I took several photos until I was happy with this one. I loved the way all the figures were dark and gloomy and this one girl approached in the opposite direction with her really colourful clothes.

Wexford Slobs wexford bay coastal seascape photo

“Misnomers: rank and file.”

– SJ Mannion

Situated on the South Eastern end of the Slaney region in Wexford Bay, lies the Wexford Slobs, an internationally renowned wild bird sanctuary. This timber structure is located along the beach where the slobs meet the Irish Sea at Wexford Bay. The area itself photographically speaking was not very interesting to me. However I loved the decaying character of these timbers. The sea was extremely calm and this was enhanced by the long exposure in the coastal seascape photo.

“The Wexford Slobs 1” received a Diamond award in 2011 IPPA photographer of the year awards.

Urris Beach Inishowen donegal photo fine art photography

“Rock forms. Pilgrim seals in monkish congregation?”

– SJ Mannion

I wanted to visit Urris Beach on the peninsula of Inishowen Donegal for some time to photograph the beautiful sculptural forms along the beach. I knew it would become a lovely Donegal photo. When I arrived there, the light was very soft. I decided abstract photos of the rocks and Black and White photography would compliment out those lovely forms.

There is a lovely relationship between the large rock on the right and the smaller ones on the left. Like a parent protecting it’s young.

Turlough the Burren County Clare ireland

“Sleight of land, hides water.”

– SJ Mannion

An example of a Turlough in the Burren, County Clare. A Turlough, or Turlach, is a unique type of disappearing lake found mostly in limestone areas of Ireland, west of the River Shannon. I loved the forms of the gnarly bushes, which had been covered in mud and had been exposed after the water level had subsided.

Landscape photo of beautiful Tory island

“Fleet of rock. Going forth.”

– SJ Mannion

A panoramic landscape photo of the beautiful Tory island cliffs, which I took during a photography trip with a very good friend of mine Mark Macdonald, 1 week before my wedding. I am pretty scared of heights and I knew I had to take this particular landscape photo from a precarious location on a ledge to get the best angle. Mark carried my stuff down to the ledge while I, petrified, scuppered down on my backside. Mark had to keep me calm as I shot and I was even afraid to lean forward to change the camera settings on the view camera. Mark had to do it to my instructions. After a lot of hyperventilating, puffing and panting, I managed to get this image!

Tory Island donegal irish landscape prints Donegal

“A majestic progress, a stately flotilla.”

– SJ Mannion

One of my Irish Landscape Prints available from the incredible Tory island shortly before my wedding. The island, located off the coast of Donegal is a landscape photographer’s paradise. My aim was to use the diagonal of the bottom right rock to lead your eye to the apparent meeting point of the distant cliffs and the large main rock in the foreground. I was shooting the scene, when suddenly the rays of sunshine burst through on the right of the image to complete the the image perfectly. I find the photo quite peaceful but than I love the sea.

“Stone Monoliths, Tory Island 2” received a Diamond award in the 2012 IPPA photographer of the year awards.

Tory Island cliffs seascape photography

“If stone could sail…”

– SJ Mannion

wonderful seascape photo of Tory Island, located off the Donegal coast. I went there with a very good friend of mine Mark, 1 week before my wedding. The spectacular Tory island cliffs are mesmerizing and an important part of the Donegal landscape. The dramatic rock formations make interesting subject matter for seascape photography. However I am also pretty scared of heights. I was slightly nervous to say the least but it was all worth the effort.
