Blackrock Baths Photo Fine Art Print
“In burnished defeat light also loves and loses the day. Separation older than time.”
– SJ Mannion
A fine art print photo of the famous Blackrock Baths, taken underneath the spectator seating. It is an amazing scene of weathered concrete and plaster, covered in graffiti. The place oozes with character ironically brought alive while in a state of decay. It was a difficult photo to capture. I had to return on several occasions to get a shot I was a happy with. I actually wanted a sunrise and sunset version, both where the diving platform should be illuminated by the warm sunlight, The tide needed to be out in both instances to get the capture I needed and the light had to be just perfect and at the right time. Easier said than done. This was the only spot under the seating where I could get all the elements coming together perfectly – the light, the platform, Howth Head. the horizon, and most importantly the amazing beams radiating above me. Unbelievably I managed to get the sunrise shot the next morning.
Radiating beams, Blackrock Baths at Sunset received a Diamond award in 2012 IPPA photographer of the year awards.
